The Hiloula of Rabbi Haim Pinto:
record-breaking gathering of over 2,000 members of the Moroccan Jewish community from around the world took place in the city of Essaouira, as pilgrims came together to celebrate the Hiloula of Saint Rabbi Haim Pinto.
The Hiloula of Rabbi Haim Pinto, also known as Yom Hillula, is a deeply spiritual event commemorating the anniversary of the revered rabbi’s passing. Rabbi Haim Pinto, a prominent Jewish scholar and spiritual leader of Essaouira, is remembered for his profound influence and enduring legacy within Moroccan Jewry.

Each year, on the 26th of Elul—the final month of the Hebrew calendar—Jewish pilgrims travel from across the globe to pray at his tomb in the old Jewish cemetery of Essaouira, turning the city into a vibrant center of faith and remembrance.
Eyal David, Israel’s Deputy Head of Mission in Morocco, shared on Twitter:
“I am sure that the Israeli tourists will enjoy discovering this wonderful historical city [Essaouira], which I personally adore.”
Since the normalization of diplomatic ties between Morocco and Israel in December 2020, the two countries have significantly strengthened bilateral relations. Initiatives to boost Israeli tourism have been especially successful, with over 15,000 Israeli visitors traveling to Morocco to celebrate Passover in April alone.
