Pursuant to a decision published in the Official Bulletin, the Moroccan Ministry of Culture has officially classified three Jewish monuments located within the city of Assilah as national heritage sites. The designated sites are the Kahal Synagogue, the Jewish cemetery, and a mikvé complete with its associated oven. The Kahal Synagogue, originally constructed in 1824 and reconstructed and reopened in 2022, is among these protected sites.

This decision, bearing the signature of Minister of Culture Mehdi Bensaid, places these monuments under the protective purview of Law 22-80, necessitating ministry notification for any proposed alterations. The inclusion of these sites on the national heritage list underscores Morocco’s continued dedication to the preservation of its Jewish heritage.
